Survey: 45.5% believe that Milei promoted the $LIBRA scam because "he sought to benefit himself or people close to him"

As the investigation into the $LIBRA case progresses , a survey revealed that 45.5% of those surveyed believe that President Javier Milei recommended the crypto scam on his social networks with the aim of "benefiting himself or people close to him." In addition to this, the same percentage acknowledged that they never trusted the president, with 14.3% indicating that they now do so to a lesser extent.
The data comes from a study carried out by Proyección Consultores . For the report, 2,029 cases of people over 16 years of age residing in Argentina were analyzed online. The survey was conducted between February 17 and 22, and has a confidence level of 95% and a margin of error of 2.18%.
Survey: 45.3% believe Milei is to blame for the $LIBRA scandal because "she knew it was a scam"
The controversy over $LIBRA exploded after the publication of a post on the president's official account on X (formerly Twitter), where he recommended this investment, which generated an abrupt rise in the value of the digital asset. However, hours later, the cryptocurrency suffered a significant collapse, which led to accusations of fraud and a wave of complaints both in the judicial sphere and in Congress.
Following this fact, the consulting firm asked respondents why they think the president "recommended on his networks an investment in cryptocurrencies that ended up being a scam." Under this premise, 45.5% of those surveyed responded that Milei acted in this way because "he sought to benefit himself or people close to him." In contrast, 31.4% think that the libertarian was not familiar with the issue, while 23.1% said they had no information on the matter.
When broken down by voters, 48.6% of those who voted for Milei said that "he was not aware of the issue" , 10.2% that he was looking for a benefit and 41.2% that he did not know or was not aware of the issue. For those who voted for Patricia Bullrich the figures are similar: 53.9% who think that the president did not know the details of the project, against 20.5% who say that it was on purpose. Among Sergio Massa 's followers the scenario was the opposite: 75.5% said that he did it to get some benefit and 15.3% gave him the benefit of the doubt.
The report also reveals that the scandal has affected citizens' trust in the president. In this regard, 14.3% said they now trust the president less. Meanwhile, 45.5% of those surveyed said they never trusted the economist, compared to 31.5% who said they still trust him in the same way.
Once again, in the analysis by voters, the trends were repeated as in the case of Milei's responsibility in the event . Among the libertarian's followers, 64.9% trust him equally, although 15.3% trust him less; among Bullrich's followers, those figures are 58.7% and 17.3% respectively. Finally, 79.3% of those who elected Massa never trusted the president, so there were not so many variations after the event (9.4% trust him less and 7% were not affected).
Javier Milei's management: attitude to improve the situation of the country, but lack of empathy with vulnerable sectorsOther aspects analyzed in the survey were the opinion on Milei's management and the attributes of the head of state. In general terms, the evaluation of Milei's government also shows a strong polarization. While 45.5% of those surveyed consider his performance positive, 49.5% rate it negatively.
In addition, the survey reflected a slight decline in support for the libertarian administration . In this sense, in December it garnered support of 48.5%, three points more than at present. Likewise, its opposition was 48.3%, one point less than in the last survey.
In line with this data, the president's image showed more rejection than support . In this regard, his positive image was 46.1%, while the negative one climbed to 49.1%.
Regarding Milei's attributes , the one that received the most support was his "attitude to improve the situation of the country" , which garnered 45.3% support and 43.8% opposition. He was followed by his " ability to keep promises" (44.7% in favor, compared to 42.6% against) and "hard worker" (with more negative opinions —42.5%— than affirmative ones —42.3%—).
On the other hand, the aptitude that was least demonstrated was "empathy with the most vulnerable sectors" , with 57.6% saying that they do not have this attribute and 26.4% saying that they do. Behind them were "emotional stability" (54.2% who think they do not have it and 27.7% who think they do) and "capacity for dialogue" (55.4% said they do not have it, compared to 33.7% who say they do).
Looking ahead to future legislative elections, the report reveals that 54.4% of those surveyed would prefer to vote for an opposition candidate who would limit the libertarian government , while 45.6% would support a candidate who supports its management. This majority sentiment was even more noticeable among Massa's followers, with 89.8% supporting the idea of an opposition candidate winning. On the contrary, the majority of Milei's voters (82.1%) and Bullrich's voters (82.3%) opted for a candidate aligned with the government to win.
Despite these results, 28.8% of those surveyed said that if the elections were held today, they would be more willing to choose La Libertad Avanza . In second place was Kirchnerism (17.9%), closely followed by Peronism (15.4%). On the other hand, PRO-Macrismo was positioned fourth, with 5.8%.
